About the Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays played their first game on March 31, 1998 against the Detroit Tigers at Tropicana Field before a crowd of 45,369. The franchise obtained star players Wade Boggs, Fred McGriff, and Wilson Alvarez prior to the start of the '98 season, giving the team instant credibility.
Wilson Alvarez threw the first pitch and Wade Boggs hit the first home run in team history that day, and Rob Arra was there to capture the moment in this panoramic stadium photograph, "First Pitch".
